Daniel Sedin to Sit Out One More.

Sheldon SinghNov 19, 2009

According to the Vancouver Sun, injured Canucks forward Daniel Sedin will not play on Friday against the Colorado Avalanche. However, it is very likely that he will be making his return on Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Sedin skated on his own on Wednesday morning, but did not participate in the team's practice at GM Place. Sedin practiced again this morning, this time with the team, and says that he is feeling much better. Sedin has been out six weeks with a broken foot suffered in a game against the Montreal Canadiens on October 7th.

Sedin was initially forecast to miss between four and six weeks with the injury and had hoped to beat that prediction.

"I think I knew right away it was a pretty tough bone to heal and it was going to take some time," he said. "You want to come back as early as you can, but at the same time they told me not to push it. I think the trainers and the doctors have done a great job with it."

It was believed that during the five game road trip, Sedin had suffered a set back during a length practice in Dallas. He was still experiencing pain in his left foot and was sent home to have more x-rays done.

"Everyone thinks it was a setback but I felt fine skating back here," he said. "It's another thing skating with the team, there's a lot more movement back and forth but I had to try it, otherwise I wouldn't have found out. There was more soreness and they said if it's sore or painful you have to take a few days off or a week off and that's what we did."

Defenceman Sami Salo and forward Rick Rypien, who both missed Monday's practice, were back on the ice Wednesday.

The Canucks have now had five days off to get some rest after a five game road swing. Their next game will be tomorrow night at GM Place when the Avalanche come to town looking for vengeance after being humiliated last week by the Canucks in their own building.  The game starts at 7:00 PM and can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet Pacific.
