NHL Short Notes
1. PENGUINS LOSE ANOTHER DEFENCEMAN IN GOLIGOSKI
This past weekend the Pittsburgh Penguins suffered another crippling blow to their blue line when Alex Galigoski went down with a lower body injury. This latest setback will really hurt the Penguins as this sophomore was in the midst of a solid season with 14 points and a +11 rating. Galigoski who will miss approximately two weeks joins fellow blue liners Sergei Gonchar, Kris Letang and Brooks Orpik on the injured list.
2. FORSBERG STAYING IN SWEDEN
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis put an end to all the rumours relating to veteran forward Peter Forsberg coming back from Sweden to sign with the Vancouver Canucks. Forsberg who spent a majority of his 12 years NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche has been plagued in recent years with ankle and foot injuries which had him pondering retirement. Even though this talented two time Stanley Cup champion is in his late 30’s many clubs including the Canucks, Avalanche, New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers have been rumoured as wanting to sign him. Currently he is playing in Sweden and has made it clear that if he comes back to the NHL it won’t be until next year.
3. KNUBLE SIDELINED FOR A FEW WEEKS
On Friday night the Washington Capitals lost their veteran leader when two- way forward Mike Knuble broke his finger during the Capitals 3-1 win against the Minnesota Wild. Knuble who has scored 15 points this season will undergo surgery and is scheduled to be sidelined for three to four weeks.
