The Sunday Morning BCS Report: Week 11
The best story of the college football weekend was Stafon Johnson speaking and quoting his grandmother at a press conference
On the field, Ohio State punched their ticket to yet another BCS bowl game with a thrilling overtime victory over Iowa. Jim Tressel has led the Buckeyes to five straight Big Ten titles as he climbs closer to iconic coach Woody Hayes.
Iowa's redshirt freshmen QB, James Vandenberg, played with composure. The difference in the game was the Ohio State rushing attack led by Dan Herron and Brandon Saine. Terrelle Pryor only had to pass the ball 17 times and the Buckeye defense picked off Vandenberg three times on their way to a birth in the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1997.
Florida finished off their first undefeated season in the SEC since the late '90s while Alabama kept pace with the Gators after a big win over Mississippi State. Those two teams are now one week closer to their national semi-final meeting in the SEC Conference Championship Game.
This highlights a flaw in the BCS system as theirs is the only de facto national semi-final game as the polls will decide who the winner of the one semi-final will play.
Cincinnati beat West Virginia to remain undefeated while Pittsburgh beat Notre Dame. Those two teams are the best in the Big East and will play for the conference's BCS bid in a few weeks.
The Pac-10 picture cleared up with Arizona's loss in Cal. If Oregon wins out then they will play Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Arizona plays Oregon next week so a Wildcat win there will muddle up the Pac-10 picture again.
With three losses and two straight blowout defeats, USC is relegated to a spoiler role for the first time this decade. It appears even Pete Carroll can go through a slump as his team has grown with freshmen QB Matt Barkley.
Texas is still in control of its own destiny as the Longhorns roll towards the Big 12 conference championship game.
TCU dispatched Utah with a dominant performance as the Horned Frogs are hoping for a Texas loss.
Georgia Tech looks like a good team that could come out of the weak ACC.
Boise State beat up on Idaho. It looks like Boise State will be in the running with the loser of the Cincy/Pitt game and Iowa for the last BCS at large bid.

One last thought...
The Heisman Trophy race this season has been very interesting. In a poll I did earlier this season, Dez Bryant of Oklahoma State received the most votes. With the big three quarterbacks coming into this season having average seasons or suffering injuries, the race for the Heisman has never been this wide open, this late in the season.
So for the first time since Charles Woodson was a finalist for and won the Heisman, college's award for the best player might go to the best player and not the quarterback for the best team.
