Is It All But Over For The New York Football Giants?

Christopher PowersNov 10, 2009

"Snap good, hold good, kick.....?" Those were the words that came out of Bob Poppa's mouth as I carefully listened on the radio this past sunday as Lawerence Tynes decided he didn't feel like doing his job, kick the ball. As I sat in the car rushing home to watch the game on television I waited for the words "True Blue" the phrase Poppa utters when Tynes kicks one through the uprights.

I never heard those words.

All I heard was that something had gone wrong someone didn't do their job. Something the Giants have done all year. Well at least the past four games.

The botched, not kicked, or fake field goal against the Chargers was only the beginning to what I felt was going to be a Giant loss. The penalties and other numerous mistakes certainly didn't boost confidence either.

Putting all the mistakes aside the G-men looked like the ones we know the rest of the afternoon. Good long drives with solid running games from Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs to finish them off. And Eli Manning looked better than ever. They had the lead for most of the 4th quarter and could have put it away if they didn't jump offsides with 1st and goal at the 4. But at least the field goal team actually did its job so I won't blame it solely on the offsides call or the missed field goal earlier in the game.

It was until the Chargers final drive that the Giants looked like the team they are capable of being. The defense did not show that on the final drive though and in result a beautiful ball by the man they traded for Eli, Phillip Rivers, fell into the hands of Vincent Jackson as they put the sleeping Giants back to bed, where they were at the begininng of this game.

The looming question now is whether or not the former 2007 World Champs can salvage their season.

They do have a bye week, so that's a start. If they can fix up the problems and get their act together I see why they can't make the playoffs or become an elite team again.

They have alot of work to do this week if either of those goals can be accomplished.

The hard work obviously starts this week at practice, but Thanksgiving Night is where New York can start fresh. At home against the Falcons is there first test for the second half of the year. A very winnable game against Atlanta, but then with games at Denver, home against Dallas, and at Minnesota to finish off the year it definitely won't be a cake walk.

With all this being said the Giants are still 5-4, that's still a winning record and there is plenty of football left and plenty of room for improvement. A plus for New York is that it hasn't been cold yet, a temperature in which teams show their real colors and when it's cold the New York Football Giants show their real colors, True Blue.
