Manny Legace is Back!
Veteran goalie Manny Legace has once more been given a golden opportunity to redeem himself as a reliable starting NHL goalie. This 36 year-old who has won a respectable 177 games in his 10 year career has agreed to a one year deal worth $500,000 with the Carolina Hurricanes. Originally taken by the old Hartford Whalers in 1993 Legace who was a late cut this past September by the Atlanta Thrashers played in the all star game back in 2008 and has a Stanley Cup dating back to 2002 when with the Detroit Red Wings. In his career which has taken him to the Los Angeles Kings, Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues Legace has posted an impressive .912 save percentage and a 2.38 GAA. Legace who is expected to join the team right away will take the place of starting goalie Cam Ward who was injured on Saturday night and is expected to be gone for up to four or five weeks. It’s been a rough time for the Hurricanes who have now lost six games in a row and sit dead last in the Eastern Conference with only seven points. Not helping matters is that their star player Eric Staal is also sidelined. Legace is expected to get his first start on Wednesday in Carolina against the Los Angeles Kings.
