UCF-Houston: Knight Fans Encouraged to Wear Black, Be Loud on Saturday
ORLANDO, FL—In just its third season in existence, UCF's Bright House Networks Stadium has already earned some national notoriety for being a tough place for opponents to play in.
Since opening day on Sept. 15, 2007, the Knights are 12-6 at home, with two of those losses coming in overtime.
In conference play, UCF is 8-3 at the Bright House, with all three losses coming during last year's 4-8 season. The Knights have yet to lose a conference game at home in 2009.
This Saturday, the Knights will take on the Houston Cougars on Homecoming. The game will be televised nationally by CBS College Sports. Coming off a last second, one-point victory over Tulsa last Saturday in Oklahoma, the Cougars come to Orlando ranked No. 15 in the BCS poll (No. 13 AP/No. 12 Coaches).
Houston marks the third nationally ranked opponent the Knights will face this season and the second in as many weeks after having faced then-No. 9 Miami (FL) in October and then-No. 2 Texas this past Saturday.
Houston (8-4, 4-1 Conference USA) is riding a five-game winning streak, including four straight C-USA victories.
The Cougars lost their first conference match of the season against UTEP in early October. Although the prolific Cougar offense managed to gain an astounding 664 total yards, their spotty defense was no match for a respectable Miner ground attack. UTEP managed 305 yards rushing, including five rushing touchdowns, as they defeated then-No. 12 Houston 58-41.
What made that Miner victory so special? It was none other than their homecoming.
In what has been marketed as a blackout, the Knights (5-4, 3-2 Conference USA) are looking to rebound from a 35-3 loss at the hands of national championship hopeful Texas.
It wasn't all bad news for the Knights, however. True freshman RB Jonathan Davis managed 71 yards rushing against a stout Longhorn rushing defense ranked No. 1 in the country. It was the highest amount of yardage rushed against Texas all season.
True freshman CB Josh Robinson continued to impress as he picked off Texas QB and Heisman hopeful Colt McCoy late in the second quarter, putting a halt to a promising Texas offensive drive.
The Homecoming game this Saturday has all the makings of a special day. A nationally ranked conference opponent and an early line of less than a touchdown, coupled with a great offensive/defensive matchup, means this game can go either way.
With a noon kickoff, it is imperative that Knight fans get to the stadium early. Let's show the Cougars why it is that so few opponents leave the UCF campus with a W.
So bring a friend, ARMOR IN BLACK, and BE LOUD!!!
