Preakness 2019 Post Positions: Updated Odds for Entire Lineup After Draw
We're days away from the 144th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course, and thanks to today's post-position draw, we have even more information about the field of horses set to vie for the Woodlawn Vase.
On Saturday, 13 horses will run at Pimlico in Baltimore, Maryland. It's the biggest field since 2011, but a Triple Crown won't be on the line this year.
That's because none of the top three finishers in this year's Kentucky Derby—Country House, Code of Honor and Tacitus—will be running this year at Pimlico. Neither will original Derby runner Maximum Security, who was controversially disqualified.
Still, the 13 horses who will be running this year's Preakness have plenty of their own intrigue and storylines to offer.
Let's break down what the field looks like and look at current odds as of today's post position draw.

Preakness Stakes Post-Position Draw Results
Trainer Bob Baffert's horses have been victorious in the Preakness Stakes seven times before: Silver Charm (1997), Real Quiet (1998), Point Given (2001), War Emblem (2002), Lookin At Lucky (2010), American Pharoah (2015), and Justify (2018).
Baffert's team is hoping that their three-year-old chestnut colt, Improbable, will make eight. Improbable will also be ridden by Mike Smith, the jockey who rode Justify to Triple Crown glory in all three jewels last year.
Improbable was the Vegas favorite heading into Wednesday's post-position draw and remained so after the results of the draw.
Incidentally, post position No. 6 has been quite favorable for past Preakness hopefuls; 16 horses have won breaking from that gate. Keep an eye out, then, for Market King on Saturday.
Alwaysmining, who has the fourth-best odds heading into Saturday, hopes to carry on the tradition of Maryland-bred horses winning the state's signature race. Eight have done it before, per America's Best Racing.
The post time for Saturday's race is 6:48 p.m. ET. The Preakness is a Grade 1, 1 3/16-mile (9.5 furlongs) race, and the prize purse is $1.5 million, an amount established in 2014. The winner of Saturday's race will take home a 60 percent share of the purse, or $900,000.
Notably, the prestigious Woodlawn Vase up for grabs on Saturday, which was originally designed by Tiffany and Co., is the most expensive trophy in U.S. sports, per NECN.com.
The race can be watched live on NBC and streamed on NBC Sports Live.
