Brandon Spikes: A Good Man

Jeremy FisherNov 3, 2009

When you hear people talk of college football’s greatest off-the-field athletes, the list of players is typically comprised of Tim Tebow.

Unfortunately, there is a player who is repeatedly left off this list. A player who continually performs good deeds, while continually being overlooked by sports analysts. He is probably overlooked because of the way he looks; like he just ate some body’s children for breakfast.

But if you can muster the courage to look past the frightening image, you will be surprised to find a saintly individual with a heart of gold.

Brandon Spikes was born in Shelby, North Carolina, September 3rd, 1987. He was one of the top recruits coming out of High School, and chose the University of Florida over Alabama, Virginia Tech, and even illustrious North Carolina State.

In 2007, Spikes had 131 tackles. Amazing. In 2008, he had 87 tackles. You might think this is worse than the prior year, but in 2008 Spikes also had 4 interceptions and 2 sacks. Clearly, he was busy doing other things when not making tackles.

Enough of his playing stats. What has he accomplished off the field?

In 2006, it was reported that Spikes acknowledged the existence of a 5-6, 120 lb. white male wearing glasses.

It is obvious that Brandon Spikes is one of college football’s most decent, respectable players. But is there another side to the star player that we don’t know about? Could there be a hidden personality trait under his cool, composed surface, a trait that he tries to cover up but will one day unleash itself on the playing field?

This very well may be the case. Look at what Tim Tebow had to say after Florida’s victory over the Georgia Bulldogs:

“He brings fire and he brings juice to everybody”.

Fire? Juice? Everybody? I wonder what this could possibly be referring to…
