NBA Draft Order 2019: Post-Lottery Selection List and Mock Draft Projections

Rob GoldbergMay 14, 2019

The New Orleans Pelicans are now officially on the clock for the 2019 NBA draft after landing the No. 1 pick in Tuesday's lottery.

There was plenty of drama in this year's lottery, with the New York Knicks dropping down to third and the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers dropping out of the top four. On the other hand, there were some big jumps as the Pelicans (No. 1), Memphis Grizzlies (No. 2) and Los Angeles Lakers (No. 4) beat the odds to get a top pick.

These changes have created a massive shift in the projections for the draft, but here is a look at the full first-round order, as well as picks for each spot.

It didn't really matter which team won the lottery because the first overall pick was likely going to be the same. This was the Zion Williamson sweepstakes, and the Pelicans are now the favorites to land the clear top prospect in the class if they don't trade the pick.

Williamson is coming off an incredible season for Duke, winning the National Player of the Year award after averaging 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks per game. His player efficiency rating of 40.8 not only led the country, but it was also the highest since Sports Reference started keeping track in 2009-10.

While critics will say he is undersized at 6'7" without a great outside shot (33.8 percent), he is a truly unique player who helps out in numerous ways.

The forward's athleticism allows him to attack the rim with ease on offense while he can also cover a lot of ground on the defensive end of the court. He is a safe pick with enormous upside at the next level.

After the first pick is where there is a lot more uncertainty.

Ja Morant and RJ Barrett appear to be the next best options, with teams needing to decide what they want in a draft pick.

Morant showed he can be an elite point guard, even against inferior competition this past season. He averaged 24.5 points and 10.0 assists per game over the course of the year, proving he can take over games while also consistently finding open teammates.

The 6'3" guard also has great quickness and athleticism that allows him to get into the lane with ease, which will serve him well at the next level.

Barrett is more of a pure scorer than anyone else in the class, averaging 22.6 points per game last season for Duke. At 6'7" with good handles, he can create openings for himself and should remain a go-to option in the NBA.

His defense and decision-making remain a question mark, but he has time to improve on these aspects as he grows.

The rest of the first round might just come down specific needs.

If you have to improve your defense, look at De'Andre Hunter or Jarrett Culver. Want a high-upside big man? Target Bol Bol, Jaxson Hayes or Sekou Doumbouya.

This class is full of players who excel in one area but are risky in one way or another

It will be up to the scouting departments and front offices to decide which players really suit each organization going forward.
