Jim Irsay: 'Never Felt so Certain' Colts Will Win Super Bowl with Current Regime

Tim DanielsApr 27, 2019

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said Saturday he's confident the franchise will win a Super Bowl with its current hierarchy of general manager Chris Ballard, head coach Frank Reich and quarterback Andrew Luck in place.

"It will happen, gentlemen. I promise you it will," Irsay told reporters. "I've never felt so certain about something in my life."

The Colts' championship hopes are once again on the rise, mostly because Luck returned to full strength last season after lingering shoulder problems cost him the 2017 campaign.

Luck completed 67.3 percent of his throws for 4,593 yards with 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while starting all 16 games for Indy in 2018. He ranked third among quarterbacks in Pro Football Focus' grades and fifth in ESPN's Total QBR.

Finding a franchise QB is the biggest hurdle to winning a title in the modern NFL, so the Colts are ahead of the curve in that regard.

Indy went 10-6 to earn a postseason berth last season, Reich's first year in charge, and defeated the AFC South rival Houston Texans during Wild Card Weekend. The Colts' season ended with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.

Ballard has continued to upgrade the roster by signing defensive end Justin Houston and wide receiver Devin Funchess in free agency.

Meanwhile, the team didn't make a pick in the first round of the 2019 draft, but it grabbed Temple cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, TCU edge-rusher Ben Banogu and Ohio State wide receiver Parris Campbell in Round 2.

Irsay is positive the situation puts the Colts in the thick of the championship conversation.
