EPL Table: 2019 Standings After Saturday's Week 36 Results and Top Scorers

James DudkoApr 27, 2019

Raul Jimenez and Callum Wilson moved up the top scorers chart in the Premier League, despite experiencing contrasting fortunes on Saturday. Jimenez scored his 13th league goal of the season as Wolverhampton Wanderers won away to Watford, while Wilson bagged a brace but couldn't prevent Bournemouth having to share the points at Southampton.

Earlier in the day, West Ham United became the first team to score and win at Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium after Michail Antonio's second-half goal settled this London derby. It's a damaging result for Spurs' bid to make sure of a top-four finish.

At the other end of the table, Cardiff City were pushed closer to the drop thanks to a 1-0 defeat away to Fulham. Ryan Babel got the goal as the already-relegated Cottagers won their third match in a row and also ensured Southampton's survival.

Spurs couldn't break down a resilient West Ham defence led brilliantly by formidable centre-back Issa Diop. His performance and the hosts' profligacy kept the Hammers in it long enough to snatch a winner.

It came when Marko Arnuatovic floated a deft cross into the box to meet Antonio's run. The latter controlled with his chest before stroking in a cute finish.

The defeat leaves Spurs looking over their shoulders, as Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United vie for qualification to next season's UEFA Champions League.

Jimenez and Jota proved too much for Watford at Vicarage Road. They combined when the latter teed up Jimenez to open the scoring four minutes before the break.

The goal brought up a club landmark for the Benfica loanee, who has to be considered the signing of the season:

Andre Gray got the Hornets' equaliser four minutes after the restart, but a mistake from Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster let Wolves back in late on. The usually reliable stopper missed a pass from Ruben Neves and allowed Jota to nod into an empty net.

Bournemouth went behind after just 12 minutes at St Mary's Stadium when Shane Long found the net. Fortunately, Wilson was in fine form and helped draw the Cherries level soon after when he played in Dan Gosling.

Wilson then returned to his more familiar goalscoring ways when he put the visitors ahead on 32 minutes.

Not deterred, the Saints struck back twice, first through James Ward-Prowse 10 minutes after the break. Substitute Matt Targett then headed in the 1,000th goal of this Premier League season.

It was left to a familiar duo to get Bournemouth out of trouble, when creative winger Ryan Fraser found Wilson:

Southampton didn't win, but the Saints can thank Babel for ensuring their top-flight status for another season. The Dutchman has been a success on a brief contract since arriving from Besiktas back in January:

The defeat leaves Cardiff needing results to go their way, but things didn't go to plan in Brighton, despite Ayoze Perez putting the Magpies in front. His goal after 18 minutes continued a prolific run for the player who has inspired Newcastle's push to safety:

Brighton had to get something and forced a reward 15 minutes from time when cultured playmaker Pascal Gross headed in. It should prove enough to keep the Seagulls in the division for another season.

A point apiece hasn't done much to alter the fortunes of Palace and Everton, both of whom are comfortably sauntering toward the end of long campaigns.
