Texas Woman Wins $1.2 Million on $18 Kentucky Derby, Early Race Bet
Justify's win in the 2018 Kentucky Derby netted $1.24 million for his team Saturday, and a woman in Texas nearly matched that total after correctly predicting five winners from Derby day.
ABC News' Bill Hutchinson and Mark Osborne reported the woman placed an $18 bet on the results of five races Sunday, including the Kentucky Derby. When Justify crossed the finish line first in the Run for the Roses, the woman collected $1.2 million at Retama Park in Salem, Texas.
"It's extremely rare," Retama Park spokesperson Rachel Bagnetto said. "To bet that little amount of money and win $1.2 million is unheard of. In fact, it's the first time it's happened at Retama."
According to Hutchinson and Osborne, Funny Duck (39-1) was the biggest individual long shot among the five horses the woman correctly picked. Funny Duck went on to win the Pat Day Mile.
