Joel Embiid Questions Officiating After 76ers' OT Loss to Celtics in Game 3
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid wasn't happy with the officiating in his team's 101-98 overtime loss to the Boston Celtics in the 2018 Eastern Conference Semifinals.
After the game, Embiid discussed his frustration with the fact Celtics forward Al Horford wasn't whistled for a single foul during the game. Sports Illustrated's Ben Golliver shared Embiid's comments:
While Embiid thought he should've drawn more foul calls, the Sixers had a slight 18-14 edge in foul shots. The referees also called six more fouls on Boston (20) than Philadelphia (14).
But Embiid is right to think his individual matchup with Horford had a major impact on the final outcome. Horford held Embiid to 22 points on 26 shots. Philadelphia has had to rely heavily on the second-year center throughout the series, so the team is in big trouble when he's shooting 10-of-26 from the floor.
Even if the referees are more generous to Embiid in Game 4 and beyond, it's unlikely going to be enough to help the Sixers overturn a 3-0 series deficit.
