Recap
Kolkata got off to a strong start at Eden Gardens, spearheaded by Chris Lynn's 74 from 41 balls, while Robin Uthappa notched 34 and Dinesh Karthik bagged 43.
The hosts were on course to surpass 200 runs for their innings but fell short in the final two overs, per CricBuzz:
A rain break of almost an hour-and-a-half interrupted Punjab's innings, meaning they were tasked with reaching 125 in 13 overs.
Despite the break in play, opening partnership Lokesh Rahul and Chris Gayle—who started the chase with intent—were able to retain their early momentum and almost reached the required tally without the aid of any of their team-mates, with the former bagging 60 and the latter 62.
As ESPNCricinfo's Bharath Seervi noted, Gayle has been making up for lost time in the IPL:
In the day's second match, a disastrous start for Delhi Daredevils saw Jason Roy and Gautam Gambhir dismissed for a combined total of eight runs.
Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship with an impressive 52, while Rishabh Pant's 85 helped Delhi mount a strong comeback. Commentator Harsha Bhogle singled out the latter for praise:
Pant then ran out Bangalore's Quinton de Kock on 18 runs, while Trent Boult produced a magnificent catch on the boundary to dismiss Virat Kohli.
It was all for nought, though, as AB de Villiers' sensational 90—which included 10 sixes and five fours—helped ensure a successful chase for RCB with two overs to spare.
