Aside from a number of Premier League records, manager Pep Guardiola's side have little left to play for in 2017-18, having been handed the title following Manchester United's 1-0 home loss at Old Trafford to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
Aguero, 29, has played a key role in the Citizens' runaway triumph this term, netting 21 goals in 25 appearances in the English top flight.
However, he has also struggled with knee problems, and he was sidelined for City's 3-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday because of a strong challenge from Ashley Young in the Sky Blues' 3-2 defeat to United on April 7, per Jonathan Smith of ESPN.co.uk.
With Liverpool knocking out City from the UEFA Champions League last Tuesday, Aguero can now sit out the rest of the season and focus on making a return for the World Cup.
Argentina kick off their Group D campaign with a fixture against Iceland on June 16.
