Tiger Woods to 'Take a Little Break' After Shooting 1 over at 2018 Masters
Tiger Woods had an up-and-down return to major tournament golf, finishing one stroke over par at the Masters. While there were bright spots, he said he'll need some time off.
"I'm going to take a little break for sure," Woods told reporters. "We're going to go back to the gym, start working on things again, start getting a little more fit."
Woods' best day was Sunday, as he finished with a 69 after failing to break par with a 73, 75 and 72 in his first three days.
He had five birdies on the day, giving him 13 for the tournament, plus this impressive eagle on the 15th hole Sunday:
However, he was inconsistent with his putter and wasn't as good as we have seen in the past on his approach shots. He finished with four bogeys and a bunch of pars that could have been birdies.
Although it might not have been as impressive a score as he hoped for, especially after finishing in the top five in each of his last two events, it was a strong return to Augusta National after going two years without competing in a major championship because of back injuries.
A break could be useful for the 42-year-old, but it's difficult to imagine he's away long. The Players Championship, an event he won in 2001 and 2013, is set for May 10-13. The U.S. Open isn't until June, however, if he wants some extra time off before competing in the next major.
