Sunday Recap

Welbeck scored his first Premier League goals since September 2017 in an action-packed game in north London.

Southampton went ahead after Shane Long nipped in front of Shkodran Mustafi to poke past Petr Cech after just 17 minutes. However, their lead only lasted 10 minutes as Aubameyang equalised with his sixth Arsenal goal.

Opta showed what a great impact he has had since joining from Borussia Dortmund in January:

Welbeck then put Arsenal ahead with a powerful strike, but they were pegged back yet again as Charlie Austin converted Cedric Soares' cross to make it 2-2.

Goalkeeper Petr Cech then denied Austin a second before Welbeck was guilty of a glaring miss from two yards. James Gheerbrant at The Times neatly summed up the action:

However, the striker managed to make amends as he scored the winner with just nine minutes of normal time remaining. Alex Iwobi produced a cross and Welbeck rose above Soares to head home.

The game finished amid chaotic scenes as Jack Stephens was sent off for a shove on Jack Wilshere. Minutes later Arsenal were also down to 10 men as Mohamed Elneny saw red for a push.

The defeat keeps Southampton in the bottom three, while Arsenal close to within three points of Chelsea in fifth after they were held at home by West Ham.

The Blues took the lead through Azpilicueta, who poked home after a scramble following an Eden Hazard corner.

Chelsea went on to dominate the game and had chances to increase their lead but could not find a way past Joe Hart in the visitors' goal.

West Ham made them pay in the second half as Hernandez fired home clinically just three minutes after arriving as a substitute.

Opta showed how the match was a first for Chelsea:

The result continues Chelsea's poor form, and Antonio Conte's side have now managed just three Premier League wins in 2018. Matt Law at The Telegraph said Arsenal could finish above them:

While it's a less than impressive result for Chelsea, it's an important point for West Ham and will give them confidence they can stay in the Premier League.
