Rob BlanchetteJan 30, 2018

Liverpool comfortably defeated Huddersfield Town 3-0 on the road in the Premier League, as the Reds collected three points on Tuesday.

Emre Can's deflected finish gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half, and Roberto Firmino doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Mohamed Salah scored a penalty in the closing stages as the Anfield giants strolled to victory.

Jordan Henderson returned to the starting XI after absence, as James Milner joined his fellow England international in midfield, per the club's official Twitter account:

Huddersfield also provided their side, as Terence Kongolo was given his first start in the English league since joining on loan from Monaco:

The visitors were in control from the earliest stages, keen to make an impression after a set of disappointing results under coach Jurgen Klopp.

Andrew Robertson was menace for the Reds as he continually drove forward, and the opener came after good work from the Scottish full-back.

Can was the beneficiary of his team-mate's work, striking through the ball as Huddersfield attempted to clear their lines.

The German's effort took a deflection after a firm hit and found the bottom corner past stricken goalkeeper Jonas Lossl.

Liverpool were very comfortable as the Terriers were easily muzzled, and a second appeared only a matter of time away.

Firmino obliged for Klopp in injury time at the end of the first half, sending the travelling fans into song as he tucked his effort away.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo called the action:

The hosts couldn't get into the game in the second half, constantly fluffing their lines as they allowed Liverpool time and space.

Klopp was calm in his technical area as his team strutted around the park, and it was all too simple for the Reds—who had expected a more difficult challenge.

The game was put to bed with 12 minutes remaining as Salah slotted away a penalty for the third of the night.

Can was pushed over in the box by Philip Billing, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot, as home fans sighed.

To their credit, the Huddersfield fans refused to stop singing, but their team were well beaten at the final whistle.

It was a poor night for the home team, who lacked inspiration and variety as they failed to rise to the occassion.

Liverpool draw level on 50 points with third-placed Chelsea, but remain in fourth on goal difference in the Premier League table.
