Gianni VerschuerenJan 23, 2018

The 2018 Winter Olympics will kick off on February 8 in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and American, British and Canadian viewers will both enjoy comprehensive coverage of this year's event, with full live streams.

As reported by Jennifer Calfas of Time, NBC have made the decision to broadcast events live across all timezones, with full live-stream options available through NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app. American viewers can find the full schedule by clicking here.

In the UK, the BBC will have live coverage on TV, online and through its mobile app.

In Canada, CBC will cover ''every medal-winning moment throughout the Games'' via the CBC app and their official website, which can be found here.

Here are some of the top storylines heading into the 2018 Winter Olympics.

No NHL participation and Russia Ban

Per Dan Rosen of NHL.com, the league decided not to include a break in the schedule for this year's Games, making it impossible for the best players in the world to travel to South Korea.

The NHL's best representatives had featured in the Winter Olympics in five straight editions, but that run will come to an end in February.

As reported by ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, the tournament was thrown into further chaos when the International Olympic Committee banned Russia for doping violations.

The Russians were seen as favourites without the top players from North America participating, and while their players could still grab gold under a neutral flag, it's safe to say the tournament is a confusing mess right now.

With Canada, Russia and the United States all fielding severely weakened squads, other countries are eyeing huge upsets. The hosts could be among the sides best positioned to take advantage:

The South Korean team will include Mike Testwuide and Brock Radunske, among others, and boasts more experience than ever before.

Momentum for Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn's preparations for this year's Olympics were far from ideal, with injuries and some inconsistent form suggesting compatriot Mikaela Shiffrin was a safer bet for success in the downhill events.

But the 33-year-old took her 79th World Cup win in Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy earlier this month, her second win in just over a month after success in the Super G event at Val d'Isere in France.

Shiffrin remains the name on everyone's lips after a spectacular season, but Vonn's talent is unquestioned―when fully healthy and on her game, she's almost unbeatable. She also has her full focus on the Olympics:

Between Vonn and Shriffin, the United States should feel good about their chances in women's Alpine Skiing.
