Where, Where, Where Should Reggie Bush Play???

Where, Where, Where should Reggie Bush Play?

In 2006 Reggie Bush was the conciseness number one pick in the NFL draft. He was the fastest and quickest running back since Walter Payton. He was going to be the most explosive player ever to play in the NFL. Every time he gets the ball he is a threat to take the distance but why hasn’t he in the NFL? The reason is he hasn’t found the right position for him and he is still searching. He has the ability to take it to the end zone from any position so which is right for him? He can’t be a running back because he is to injury prone and not strong enough to be a number one back. He can’t play receiver because he doesn’t have the route running skills and he can’t play special teams because that’s not enough playing time. So the question is which position should he mold his talents to?

Most people would say Reggie Bush should play running back, but that would be the worst thing for him to do. People think that because he played running back at USC and high school he should just stay there. But College football is extremely different then normal football. Even in college Reggie bush was never the number one running back, he was just the big play threat. If he can’t play number one running back in college, which is way easier, he has no chance of playing it in the NFL. Someone his size would never be able to take the pounding of a running back. He is 5-10 180 and as a running back has to run through 6-5 350 pound defensive tackles. Because he is so small it lets him be extremely fast but it also makes him weak and extremely injury prone. By playing running back he just gets injured worse and worse and if that continues to happen he will never be able to play. If he can’t take the hits from running back he should consider switching to a different position.

Reggie Bush was always the perfect player to be on special teams. He is short so he can hide behind blocks and he is accelerates extremely fast and is the always the quickest and fastest player on the field so he is always a threat. But the only problem with him only being the special teams returned is that the Saints used the 2nd overall pick for him and pay him 12 million dollars a year. The average special team returner is drafted in the 5th or 6th round and will never even get 12 million dollars in their career. If Reggie bush is so talented and the saints are paying him so much and used a draft pick a franchise player should be they don’t want him playing special teams.

The place most likely for Reggie Bush is a deep receiver. In that position he could use his speed, acceleration and quickness. He could run past a defense and make the defense use a corner to jam him and over the top safety help. The best part about him playing receiver is because he is so fast the defense wouldn’t be able to keep up with him in man coverage so they would need a zone. He would always make a defense worry and prepare for already the best offense in the NFL. But there are many problems with him playing receiver. First off and worst off he doesn’t have well enough route running skills to play receiver in the NFL. To play receiver in the NFL you have to have amazing route running skills, the players have to run it perfectly. Darius Hayward Bay the most athletically talented wide receiver in a long time was drafted 8th overall but where does he play? He plays right bench on one of the worst teams in football. He has 2 things that Reggie bush doesn’t, Height and mediocre route running skills. If Darius can’t start on a terrible team with mediocre route running skills then Reggie Bush can’t even be 3rd string with his route running skills. But if New Orleans wants to play him at a game breaking position and he worked on his routes wide receiver ok for him.

But by far the best position for him is Hback/ short and screen receiver. With him at that position he can finally use his talents, get the ball in space and make plays. When he gets the ball he can use his quickness to dodge past defenders and use his speed to accelerate for big gains. The Saints could use him on blitzes to run short routes get the ball and dodge past the little defenders left. They could use him on screen passes with him getting blocks from linemen. Once he can get through a tiny hole he is gone in the end zone. His problem was getting the ball in space but on short passes it is easy to catch and will be in space able to make plays instead of in the backfield. Obviously this is the right position for him and will be worse until the Saints put him here.

Obviously the Saints are doing everything they can to get him on the field but right now he is useless. When the Saints put Reggie in the right position he will finally do well. He will use his speed and athleticism to change the position and finally be worth the second overall draft pick. Hopefully for the Saints they will make the right move but until then everyone will always think, Reggie Bush the big play bust.

I am a new writer in this field so any tips/advice/criticism/ or comments would be greatly appreciated.
