On Tuesday, the U.S. men's soccer team failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup after a stunning 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago. Honduras and Panama beat Mexico and Costa Rica, respectively, to seal the Stars and Stripes' undesirable fate: No trip to Russia.

Many label this USMNT loss as a huge black eye on soccer in the country. Bruce Arena's team couldn't clinch third place with a win or draw against the last-place team in the group.
Instead, it's a fifth-place finish and the first absence from World Cup contention since 1986 for the U.S.
Arena faced the media after the match and shouldered the blame as expected.
"We had everything there for us today," Arena told reporters after the match. "We should not be staying home for this World Cup, and I take the responsibility for that."
Of course, social media didn't let Arena or the U.S. off the hook that easy:
Many critics, including former USMNT player Taylor Twellman, have called for wholesale changes from top to bottom, which go far beyond Arena.
