Weeks after his mother Linda McMahon stepped down as CEO of the World Wrestling Entertainment so she could run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Chris Dodd, Shane McMahon tendered his resignation from the Stamford-based company as well on Friday.
Unfortunately it didn't come in the middle of some big ring event where his trademark move the Shane O' Shuffle failed him. It was just another corporate stepping down, with press release and all.
"It has been an incredible experience to help build WWE into a global phenomenon," McMahon, 40, said in a statement. "However, having been associated with this organization for the majority of my life, I feel this is the opportune time in my career to pursue outside ventures."
While he worked in the company's business end, he found his way into the ring as did most of the rest of his family.
In addition to fighting, where his moves included the diving Leap of Faith or Coast-to-Coast, he spent time as manager of wrestlers from Umaga and The Rock to Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Big Show not to mention his brother in law, Triple H, and his father Vince McMahon.
"Even though I am personally saddened by Shane's decision to leave the company," Vince McMahon said, "I am proud of the enormous contributions he has made."
Then he clotheslined the ingrate. Just kidding.
