Report: Cristiano Ronaldo Told Neymar to Reject PSG, Wait for Manchester United

Gianni VerschuerenJul 23, 2017

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly told Barcelona star Neymar not to leave his current club for Paris Saint-Germain, saying he should consider Manchester United if he really wants to leave the La Liga giants.

According to Catalan outlet Diario Gol (h/t The Sun's Duncan Wright), Ronaldo in a series of WhatsApp messages warned his rival that a move to Ligue 1 would be a step back.

The transfer saga surrounding the Brazil international has exploded in the last week, with numerous reports from France and Spain contradicting each other on a daily basis.

Carlos Carpio of Marca reported Sunday that Neymar had agreed to a contract with PSG, though Ramiro Aldunate (via Tim Hanlon), who works for the same newspaper, noted the 25-year-old had decided to stay in Spain after meeting with his team-mates.

Amid all the speculation, the player himself hasn't commented on the situation. Football journalist Rik Sharma thought that wouldn't sit well with fans:

Per Wright, Neymar would cost Les Parisiens an astronomical transfer fee of £195 million—more than double the current record—on top of wages of up to £500,000 per week. There are only a few clubs that could pay such figures, and United are certainly part of that group.
