Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Paulo Dybala and Neymar

Matt JonesJul 22, 2017

Barcelona will target Juventus forward Paulo Dybala this summer should they lose Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.

That's according to Ramiro Aldunate of Marca, who suggested Barca's "attention would then immediately turn to Dybala" if they were to lose their brilliant Brazilian.

"Dybala is a player that Lionel Messi respects and enjoys playing with at international level, which would make the loss of Neymar easier to deal with for the No. 10," Aldunate reported. It's also noted the Juventus man would be keen to link up with Messi at the Camp Nou.

Speculation about Neymar's prospective move to PSG continues to gather pace. According to Julien Laurens of the Guardian, the Ligue 1 giants are "increasingly confident" of wrapping up a £199 million deal for the Barcelona man, as well as Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

Sky Sports News HQ also suggested it's looking likely Neymar will be on the move:

As noted by sportswriter Liam Canning, the Ligue 1 side look to be on the brink of two of the most sensational transfers in history:

Neymar's flair, speed and composure would be difficult to replace for Barcelona regardless of the money they would bring in from his sale. But Dybala is one of a few men with the potential to plug that gap.

Since joining Juventus from Palermo in 2015, he's been sensational. During the 2016-17 season, Dybala was vital in the team's Serie A triumph. The Argentina international was also pivotal in Juve dumping Barcelona out of the UEFA Champions League, netting twice in a 3-0 win.

He's a creative footballer, as WhoScored.com demonstrated:

While Dybala is undoubtedly a rising star, he isn't quite up to the standards Neymar consistently sets for Barcelona.

Positioned out on the left flank, he brings an incredible thrust in the final third. When the Brazilian is at full speed with the ball at his feet, he is so hard to halt; his ability to change direction at speed, breeze past defenders and make smart decisions in dangerous areas is almost unmatched in football.

Additionally, he has struck up a telepathic understanding with Messi and Luis Suarez. As Squawka Football noted, the three players are remarkably prolific:

If Neymar were to move on, Barcelona would need to make a big stylistic shift. After all, there aren't many players capable of conjuring what the Brazilian can.

Dybala is a different type of player. The Argentina man has been at his best when used through the middle, and if he were to play in a wider berth, the right flank—from which he could dart inside and fire shots at goal—would be better suited to him.

Getting the forward out of Turin would also be a massive challenge. Dybala signed a new long-term contract earlier in the year, and as noted by Football Italia, there is no release clause included.
