Jeff Horn 'Felt Like' He Beat Manny Pacquiao Despite Controversial Decision
While plenty have disagreed with the unanimous decision that gave Jeff Horn the upset win over Manny Pacquiao on Sunday morning in Australia, the underdog didn't let that get to him.
"There will always be a backlash where people say I got lucky, or whatever. There will always be the naysayers saying I didn't win the fight, but I felt like I won the fight," the Australian Horn said Monday, per the Associated Press (via ESPN).
"Everyone has a right to their opinion," he added. "I'm sure I've [gained] a lot more fans over there than I've lost."
While the battle between international superstar Pacquiao and the lesser-known Horn was closer than many anticipated, most believed Pacquiao deserved the win after 12 rounds.
According to CompuBox (via BoxingScene.com), the 38-year-old landed many more punches and was more than twice as efficient at a 31.8 percent success rate compared to just 14.7 percent from Horn.
However, the three judges saw the fight a different way, with two scoring it 115-113 in favor of the underdog and one listing it 117-111.
Despite the controversy, Horn is still undefeated in 18 career matches and now has the WBO welterweight title. He will simply have to prove the last win wasn't a fluke in a likely rematch against Pacquiao.
