Michael Floyd's Kombucha Tea Defense Reportedly Supported by Vikings
Minnesota Vikings chief operating officer Kevin Warren wrote a letter defending wide receiver Michael Floyd's claim his positive alcohol test was due to kombucha tea consumption, saying Floyd was unaware the drink contained alcohol.
“I am writing to request Mr. Floyd not have his court mandated requirements negatively impacted since he did not know the kombucha he ingested contained alcohol,” Warren wrote in the June 21, per Brian Murphy of the Pioneer Press.
Floyd, 27, violated terms of his house arrest by failing three self-administered Breathalyzer tests after consuming the kombucha tea while at teammate Kyle Rudolph's home June 11. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday in an attempt to show he did not violate terms of his home confinement.

"Michael was five days away from the end of his home monitoring," a statement released through Floyd's agent read. "Prior to and after this incident, Michael has not had any alcohol whatsoever since the start of his home monitoring. Unfortunately, the kombucha teas that Michael did drink resulted in a positive blood alcohol content reading. As a result, the Court wishes to hear from Michael on June 26. At that time, Michael will have an opportunity to explain how this unfortunate test result happened.”
Floyd was sentenced to 24 days in jail and 96 days' home confinement after being found guilty of extreme DUI in February. He was arrested in December 2016 after being found passed out while driving. It was his second DUI arrest.
The Vikings signed Floyd to a one-year contract in May. Warren wrote Floyd "has displayed a strong work ethic, a compliant attitude and professionalism," since joining the franchise.
