US Open Leaderboard 2017: Updating Results and Standings for Saturday
Four players shared the lead at the close of play in the 2017 U.S. Open on Friday, with Paul Casey, Tommy Fleetwood, Brian Harman and Brooks Koepka sat on seven-under.
The quartet are, naturally, the last to tee off on Saturday, so they may no longer be at the head of the field by the time they take to the course.
There are plenty of players hot on the heels of the leaders heading into the weekend, with three players—Rickie Fowler, J.B. Holmes and Jamie Lovemark—just one shot behind at six-under.
Hideki Matsuyama is lurking among the five players who finished on five-under on Friday, while even Jordan Spieth, who will start the third round on level par, could still be in contention on Sunday if he has a good day.
Here's the live leaderboard for the tournament, which will update throughout the day:
Per Sean Martin of PGATour.com, the players tied for the lead at the start of moving day are an unlikely bunch to be at the head of the field in a major:
Of the four, Casey had by far the most eventful second round. A birdie at the 11th hole took him to seven-under, and it looked as though he would build on an excellent opening score of 66 with another strong day.
However, things quickly went south as he dropped that shot immediately at the 12th, before a shot into the fescue at the 14th saw him post a triple-bogey, and another bogey came on the following hole.
The Englishman produced a remarkable reaction to the setback, though, as he rattled off five birdies in a row from the 17th through to the third.
Per the U.S. Open, Casey believed his experience allowed him to respond in the manner he did:
Fowler, who shot 65 on Thursday to take the sole overnight lead into Friday, had a somewhat disappointing second round.
The American birdied the second and the seventh and had not dropped a shot in 28 holes before shooting three bogeys in succession at the 11th, 12th and 13th.
Despite that, ESPN's Jason Sobel believes being one behind the leaders might ultimately benefit him:
Indeed, he's still firmly in contention, but the pressure is slightly off after that round.
Fowler has as good a chance as any to win at Erin Hills, Wisconsin, this year, particularly if he can replicate his exceptional opener.
