Germany Bag Late Equaliser in 1-1 International Friendly Draw with Denmark

Gianni VerschuerenJun 6, 2017

Joshua Kimmich scored a late equaliser to cancel out Christian Eriksen's opener as Germany and Denmark shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw Tuesday.

The two teams served up a close encounter, and the final score accurately reflected the play on the pitch.

DW Sports shared the lineups, as Germany gave some of their fringe players, including Kevin Trapp and Antonio Rudiger, a chance:

The match got off to a slow start, with Denmark the more active side. Little of note happened in the first 15 minutes, but the first chance of the match was a good one, as Trapp made a stunning save to deny Jannik Vestergaard.

DW Sports' Oliver Moody noted it was a great stop, but only delayed the Danish opener:

Minutes after the save, Eriksen broke the deadlock after a dreadful clearance from Rudiger, smashing home a great shot.

The goal seemed to wake the German side up, and Leon Goretzka tested goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow for the first time. The young midfielder missed two more great chances in quick succession, first drawing another save before wildly blasting wide after a superb pass from Matthias Ginter.

Some bad defending from the visitors nearly led to another Danish chance just before half-time, but there were no more goals. Clark Whitney figured there was an issue with the German setup:

At the start of the second half, Denmark once again took control of proceedings. Eriksen blasted a volley over the bar, and Yussuf Poulsen was denied what seemed a certain goal by Trapp.

The team's official Twitter account was impressed:

Not to be outdone, Ronnow also impressed, maing crucial saves on Niklas Sule and Ginter.

The great pace of the second half was interrupted when both sides made a plethora of substitutions. Chances grew scarce, although Germany perhaps should have been awarded a penalty after a free-kick from Julian Draxler appeared to hit a Danish arm.

A 1-0 win for Denmark seemed inevitable, but Kimmich pulled Germany level with a stunning finish late. FC Bayern US loved it:

Kasper Dolberg had a late chance to win it for the hosts, but Trapp kept out his effort from a tricky angle.
