AFL Round 11 Betting Preview: Game Odds, Trends, Analysis for Week Ahead
Ladder-leading Adelaide Crows, fresh from a 100-point win over Fremantle, will look to end a 14-year losing streak when they head to Geelong on Friday night to tackle the back-in-form Cats.
The Crows have put together two massive wins in succession, banishing the memories of a two-match slide that saw them lose to North Melbourne and Melbourne early in May, to get a share back of favorite status for the AFL premiership.
But this Friday will be first time they will be on the road in 2017 against a side inside the top eight, with their four games outside of South Australia this year having been against four of the bottom six sides as the ladder currently stands.
They haven't won in Geelong since 2003, a streak of nine games, while their last four matches against the Cats have resulted in four-goal defeats or worse.
But punters feel the 2017 Crows are a good vintage, and they go into this match as $1.73 AUD favorites, according to AustralianGambling.com.au, while the Cats are outsiders at $2.10, the longest price they have been in a game since Round 1, 2016.
The round may feature just six games, but we still kick off on Thursday night with Port Adelaide hosting Hawthorn.
The Power were unlucky to get rolled by the Cats last week and showed some real quality in that game. They have a genuine next generation star in Sam Powell-Pepper, while Robbie Gray's 2017 has been outstanding,
Hawthorn are on the second leg of a two-state road trip having rolled Sydney thanks to Jarryd Roughead's late goal last week. They were $5.50 outsiders for that match and are almost as long at $4.75 in this one, with Port Adelaide at $1.19.
While the jury may still be out on whether the Power are top-four material, they should take care of business in this one.
West Coast have been one of the great mysteries of 2017, especially away from home as they are against Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles are 2-3 on the road this year and are coming off a rare loss at Subiaco against Greater Western Sydney last week. They are also without dual Coleman Medallist Josh Kennedy for this match.
The Eagles have never lost to the Gold Coast Suns and are $1.57 to continue that streak here, with the Suns, who are coming off losses in Shanghai and Alice Springs the last two games, at $2.40, with coach Rodney Eade under mounting pressure.
Greater Western Sydney Giants took another big step in their development with that win in Perth last week and should have no troubles against Essendon on Saturday evening. The Giants are $1.25 with the Bombers at $4.
Richmond got back on the winners' list against the Bombers this week and will be looking to build on that when they travel to Etihad Stadium to face North Melbourne on Saturday night.
The Tigers are $1.74 favorites despite losing seven of their past eight against the Kangaroos, who might be the value at $2.10.
There is just one Sunday game, with Fremantle only a slight favorite to bounce back from their flogging against Adelaide when they host Collingwood. The Dockers are $1.83, while Collingwood are $2.
