Kenyon Martin Recalls Almost Fighting J.R. Smith Because of Popcorn Prank
Filling a car with popcorn is one of the oldest tricks in the prank book. One of countless athletes to have experienced the joke, Kenyon Martin didn't find it funny.
Appearing on ESPN's Highly Questionable, the former NBA player recalled getting infuriated by the prank during his tenure with the Denver Nuggets. As he told Dan Le Batard and Mina Kimes, he returned to the locker room, took his shirt off for some reason and demanded answers.
He eventually learned that J.R. Smith had a ball boy do the dirty work. Martin demanded Smith's address but relented when team president Josh Kroenke assured him that the organization would pay for any damages.
The story got increasingly troubling as Martin remembered redirecting his threats to the ball boy after the Nuggets "begged" him not to confront Smith.
"If he comes back to the gym, I'm gonna slap him on sight," Martin recalled telling the team. "And I told him, 'Listen, if you see me around Denver, Colorado, anywhere, you better leave.'"
Martin claimed that he "got over it," but he still sounded angry rehashing the popcorn prank.
