WWE Raw: Burning Questions to Address After May 29 Show

Ryan DilbertMay 30, 2017

The final WWE Raw before Extreme Rules was rich with mystery.

Enzo Amore suffered another ambush by an unknown assailant. Kurt Angle and Corey Graves had a strange interaction revolving around a message sent to the announcer.

And in addition to those slowly unfolding situations, the go-home edition of Raw created doubt about who will be the last man standing in the main event of Sunday's pay-per-view. The Superstars set to collide in the No. 1 Contender's Fatal 5-Way match—Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt—crossed paths in two bouts on Monday.

What does Joe's win in Greenville, South Carolina, say about his chances at Extreme Rules?

Who took down Amore? What was on Graves' phone? And what will Sasha Banks' role be with the cruiserweight division?

These were the biggest questions to emerge from Monday's Raw, and the following is a dive into all of them.

Did Big Cass Attack Amore?

For the second week in a row, Amore fell victim to a sneak attack.

After seeing his buddy laid out again, Big Cass barked at Angle, demanding action. He pointed the finger at The Revival, but the GM wasn't ready to place blame yet.

Beyond The Revival denying its involvement, there's reason to believe the hard-hitting team wasn't responsible.

WWE hinted strongly that Amore's own partner was behind this. Graves alluded to the possibility, and Big Cass exploded. The big man's defensiveness was suspicious.

Total Wrestling magazine is among those marinating on the idea Cass was the attacker:

That seems to be what WWE is foreshadowing. The Revival are likely red herrings. But before one puts down money on Big Cass being the trigger man, remember that WWE doesn't always follow a logical path with storylines like this.

The company enjoys hinting at one outcome, only to throw out a complete curveball. Hornswoggle could just as easily be the mystery man, but the early signs point to Big Cass.

Can We Expect More of The Boss on 205 Live?

To this point, Alicia Fox has been the only woman involved with the cruiserweight division. Her rival Banks, though, has begun to step into that world.

On Monday's Raw, The Boss accompanied Rich Swann as he took on Noam Dar. Banks and Swann shared a victory dance afterward.

WWE then announced Banks would be appearing on Tuesday's 205 Live for the first time.

And WWE.com revealed that Banks and Swann will take on Dar and Fox at Extreme Rules

Is this all the company's attempt to inject some star power into the cruiserweight-centric show? Is Banks going to be aligned with Swann for a sustained stretch a la Fox and Dar? Is sliding over to the cruiserweight division a sign that WWE simply doesn't know what to do with The Boss right now?

It's no secret that 205 Live hasn't been pulling in viewers. A touch of Banks would be the latest attempted fix.

But unless she's going to start mixing it up with the likes of Drew Gulak and Dar, her impact will be minimal. Her strength is her ring work. She doesn't have the verbal skills to boost the cruiserweight division much.

She needs her own story, not to be someone's sidekick.

What's Going on with Angle and Graves?

One of the night's most intriguing moments happened at the announce desk where Graves abruptly left his post and hurried backstage to speak to Angle.

The announcer showed Angle a message he received on his phone. It had something to do with someone believing Angle was a disgrace.

Fans didn't learn anything beyond that.

This was Monday's big mystery, a story that could move in any number of directions. Is this the precursor to Stephanie McMahon returning? Will Graves try to usurp Angle as GM somehow? WWE did well to leave the audience guessing as it did.

The angle evoked some of the some's bigger reactions including this uneasy message from Three Man Booth:

This doesn't look to be answered right away. And it may have multiple layers. Graves' tense interaction with Big Cass could mean that the Amore storyline will be weaved into this one.

Whatever happens, Graves being a more active part of WWE happenings is a welcome sight.

Who Will Win the Fatal 5-Way Match?

The share of momentum ahead of Extreme Rules' main event is distributed among a number of Superstars.

Reigns knocked off Rollins in Monday's closing bout. Earlier in the night, Joe outlasted Wyatt and Balor. That follows a week where Balor beat Karl Anderson, and Wyatt and Joe defeated Reigns and Rollins.

WWE appears to be trying to sell the audience on the idea that anyone can win come Sunday.

Reigns' victories are not surprising. But there has been a clear effort to make Joe look like a real threat and protect Balor, who was inches away from winning the three-way bout Monday.

Reigns is a less of a clear favorite as a result, but it's hard to believe Joe will take on universal champion Brock Lesnar or that Wyatt will get a crack at the beast.

The recent results have just been designed to create intrigue ahead of the PPV. The Destroyer and The Eater of Worlds are more likely to end up devouring each other than getting by the competition.

It's going to come down to Reigns and Balor as those two offer the most marquee matches opposite Lesnar.
