La Liga Table 2017 Week 32: Standings and Final Scores After Sunday

Tom SunderlandApr 16, 2017

Sevilla were unable to close the gap on La Liga's leading trio after they were stifled to a 0-0 stalemate in their trip to Valencia on Sunday, which kept them three points adrift of third-placed Atletico Madrid.

Later, a second-string Celta Vigo side dazzled en route to a 3-0 triumph at Granada in preparation for Thursday's UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg at Belgian club Genk.

Espanyol were also able to capitalise away from home and dealt Leganes their third successive defeat after triumphing 1-0 at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque, thanks to a Leo Baptistao goal.

Recap

Valencia undoubtedly came away from their bore draw against Sevilla as the happier of the two teams, extending their unbeaten run to four matches and easing them over the 40-point mark in rather drab fashion.

The fixture was far from the feistiest in La Liga this weekend, although that wasn't in spite of Steven N'Zonzi's efforts to make a mark in the opposition's half, as illustrated by OptaJose:

Although manager Jorge Sampaoli's men had a greater wealth of possession, per WhoScored.com, it was Valencia who had more scoring chances, with Simone Zaza responsible for seven of the home side's 14 efforts at goal.

Tony Adams' task as Granada manager was put into full context in Sunday's late kick-off, where football writer Alexandra Jonson highlighted just how altered the visiting lineup was after being in European action on Thursday:

Celta manager Eduardo Berizzo will have therefore been overjoyed to see his reserves impress so emphatically as Jozabed opened the scoring after 23 minutes, with second-half strikes coming from Marcelo Diaz and Claudio Beauvue.

Elsewhere, Espanyol improved their bid for a top-half finish following Baptistao's 92nd-minute winner at Leganes, tightening the five-team free-for-all that's emerging just below La Liga's upper echelon of powerhouses:

Los Periquitos now sit just a point below eighth-placed Eibar and five points ahead of Celta in 10th, and they can expect to make moves higher up the order as long as they can keep up their recent record, losing just once in their last six games.

Betis may not be challenging for Europe anytime soon, but a 2-0 victory over Eibar almost saw Los Verdiblancos secure their survival, with academy product Ceballos capping off a memorable day in Seville:

His 89th-minute strike secured all three points after Martin opened the scoring just two minutes after kick-off, and the win was enough to see Betis move 12 points clear of La Liga's bottom three with six matches remaining.
