Preview
Kolkata laid down a marker in their opening game against Gujarat Lions, winning by 10 wickets to claim top spot.
The Knight Riders didn't lose a wicket as they successfully chased down 184, with Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir opening with venom.
Australian ace Lynn smashed 93 runs to break the Lions' resolve, and Gambhir contributed a fine innings of 76 runs.
Kolkata now travel to the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, as they tackle the Indians.
Mumbai lost their opening encounter to Rising Pune Supergiant by seven wickets but Englishman Jos Buttler showed promise with a score of 38 off 19 balls.
Sunrisers Hyderabad appeared in fine fettle as they started the defence of the title, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 35 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.

Captain David Warner failed to make an impression at the top of the order for SRH as he was dismissed for 14, but Shikhar Dhawan, Moises Henriques and Yuvraj Singh led the champions to victory with knocks of 40, 52 and 62, respectively.
According to the competition's official website, Warner expressed his disappointment at his innings, but was happy to force a victory:
"I shouldn't have looked at the stats before playing RCB. Tonight wasn't my night but was great to see the other guys contribute. You're always mindful against RCB. You can always allow 10 runs an over in the Powerplay. Yuvraj was superb. Whatever he's been doing is fantastic. That's the Yuvi of old we know. Shikhar has been working hard. He told me he was in good touch. Rashid Khan is a fantastic prospect. He was a little bit nervous but I told him to keep backing himself.
"
The dynamic format of T20 cricket will allow favourites to fall in the weeks ahead, as fresh challenges come from teams with new talent.
Kolkata and Hyderabad have struck first blood in their challenges, but anything can happen as the action intensifies in the second matches and beyond.
