Recap
Bournemouth made their task more difficult when defender Adam Smith deflected Diego Costa's sliced shot to give Chelsea the lead on 17 minutes. It was 2-0 on 20 minutes after another trademark stylish break from the best counter-attacking side in the league.
N'Golo Kante sent Eden Hazard clear with a superbly slid pass. The winger finished well to equal a career-best mark, per WhoScored.com:
The Blues were coasting until Josh King made things more interesting before the break. King has been as prolific as any frontman in the division this calendar year:
He has also established a niche for producing his best against the biggest teams, according to OptaJoe:
Despite their relentless pursuit of the title, Chelsea have shown a vulnerability at the back this season:
Knowing attack was their best form of defence, the Blues turned up the pressure after the break. Yet it wasn't until the 68th minute when the visitors were rewarded.
Their breakthrough came in spectacular fashion when Marcos Alonso lifted a fantastic free-kick into the net. The Spanish left-back has been one of the most underrated signings of the season, and his goal proved enough to restore Chelsea's seven-point lead at the top.
Spurs had cut the gap to four after tearing the Hornets apart in the day's early kick-off. Dele Alli got the ball rolling for Tottenham as he continues to develop into one of the most productive creative midfielders in the game, per BBC Match of the Day:
Eric Dier doubled Spurs' lead before the break, then Heung-Min Son took over. He made it three a minute before the half and completed a brace nine minutes after the restart:
In the process, Son created some Premier League history:
There was still time for Tottenham to welcome back star striker Harry Kane, who came off the bench for his first appearance after a lengthy spell out with injury. However, this was still Son's day after a remarkable star turn, per WhoScored.com:
Son's form is a major reason why Spurs have not only coped, but thrived, without Kane. Now their prolific No. 10 is back, Tottenham must be taken seriously as title contenders, even though the games are running out.
Similarly, Liverpool are now firm favourites to secure a UEFA Champions League place after beating Stoke City in the Potteries. Reds manager Jurgen Klopp needed his two brilliant Brazilians to earn Liverpool three priceless points.
The visitors were already a goal down by the time Klopp sent for Coutinho and Firmino after Jonathan Walters had put the hosts in front. Walters has been a consistent menace against Liverpool, according to Sky Sports Statto:
Liverpool hit back with 20 minutes to go when Coutinho drew the men from Anfield level. The goal gave the classy playmaker a distinct place in the history of the Premier League, per Squawka Football:
Two minutes later, it was Firmino's turn to find the net, and he did so in spectacular fashion. The 25-year-old met a superb scooped ball over the top from the underrated Georginio Wijnaldum with a brilliant strike on the half volley.
Firmino joined a host of his countrymen, including Coutinho, who have been prolific in England's top flight:
Liverpool had staged a brilliant recovery, not only from going a goal down but also from losing star forward Sadio Mane for the rest of the season, per BBC Sport. Now the Reds have proved they can win without Mane, whose injury won't slow their momentum in the race for a top-four finish.
It's a race City remain heavily involved in after beating Hull at the Etihad Stadium. An Ahmed Elmohamady own goal put the Tigers in trouble before the hosts turned on the style to net a second.
The goal came when Raheem Sterling's pace was released on the flank. He soon teed up Sergio Aguero to cap a sweeping passage of play.
The Argentinian is in red-hot form in front of goal lately:
Aguero's finish also brought up a scoring landmark for the Citizens this season:
City went three up when Fabian Delph, a rare goalscorer, lashed home a terrific drive. Former Aston Villa midfield talisman Delph scored after collecting another precise delivery from Sterling.
The England winger has become prolific as a supplier of goals in the league this season:
Not even a blunder from goalkeeper Claudio Bravo allowing Andrea Ranocchia to score could dampen the Citizens' performance and win. The Manchester club now has a commanding seven-point lead in fourth place, although rivals Arsenal and Manchester United both have two games in hand.
Elsewhere, Southampton moved up to ninth after Jordy Clasie bagged a 25th-minute winner to beat West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. Clasie profited from some terrific skill from mercurial winger Dusan Tadic, who teed him up with a smart touch.

It was a game the Saints controlled from the start thanks to composed passing in midfield and ample fluidity in forward areas. Yet they still needed a few quality saves from Fraser Forster, who denied Salomon Rondon brilliantly in the first half.
The Baggies and Saints are comfortable in mid-table, but West Ham earned some breathing space in the battle against relegation after beating Swansea City. Cheikhou Kouyate got the only goal of the game a minute before the break when he smashed in a powerful long-range shot to beat Lukasz Fabianski in the Swans' goal.
The Hammers have now moved eight points clear of the bottom three. By contrast, Middlesbrough remain in trouble second from bottom after being held to a goalless draw at home by Burnley.
Boro are now six points adrift of safety, but they have played a game than Hull.
However, the race at the top is becoming more intense as Spurs refuse to let Chelsea enjoy an easy procession to the title.
