Kobi Simmons Declares for 2017 NBA Draft
Arizona Wildcats guard Kobi Simmons declared for the 2017 NBA draft on Wednesday, the school announced.
"Kobi Simmons, with the support of his family, has decided to declare for the 2017 NBA draft," Arizona head coach Sean Miller said, per the Daily Wildcat's Christopher Deak. "All of us here at Arizona thank him for his freshman season and wish him continued success as he pursues his professional career."
Citing multiple sources, Scout.com's Evan Daniels reported Simmons is not expected back at Arizona and is likely to hire an agent.
"I have enjoyed my time at Arizona very much," Simmons said, per Deak. "I would like to thank my teammates, coaches and our great fans for their support and effort in making my year truly a special one. Bear Down."
In 37 games as a freshman, the 6'5'' guard averaged 8.8 points, 2.0 assists and 0.6 steals while shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three. He also shot a paltry 54.2 percent on shots at the rim, per Hoop-Math.com.
As a result, Simmons is not currently listed among the top 50 prospects in this year's draft by Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman.
At this point, it appears Simmons will have to put on a show at the predraft combine and in private workouts in order to vault up draft boards and ensure he can wedge his way into the second round.
