Jimmy Walker Reveals He Has Mono, Will Still Compete in 2017 Masters
Jimmy Walker's slow start to the PGA season can be attributed to mononucleosis, per Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press.
The 2016 PGA Championship winner was diagnosed with the condition after feeling sluggish for much of the year. He will still compete in this week's Masters Tournament in Augusta.
"I've just been totally lethargic," Walker said. "I've had no energy. I get to the golf course and I just want to sit down. I was not about to say anything. I just kept plugging along."
The 38-year-old only has one top-10 finish in 11 official PGA Tour events this season and has missed three cuts. He earned a "made cut, didn't finish" at the Shell Houston Open last weekend after a third-round 79 put him at plus-four for the tournament.
Walker explained he hasn't passed the mono to his kids or his wife.
Given his condition and recent showings, expectations should be tempered for the first major of the year this week.
