WWE WrestleMania 33 Results: Undertaker and Top Talking Points Following PPV
WrestleMania is the one show every year guaranteed to have fans talking for days, even weeks after the extravaganza wraps up.
Sunday's spectacular continued that tradition, delivering a handful of moments that will live forever in the annals of WWE history.
From proposals to the last match of an industry icon, the show left fans buzzing about the current state and future of Vince McMahon's sports entertainment empire.
On the heels of the monumental event, and with the vivid imagery of The Undertaker making one last walk up the obscenely long entrance ramp burned in your memory, relive the April 2 event through these prominent talking points.
The Undertaker's Last Ride
1 of 4Sunday night at The Showcase of the Immortals, The Undertaker made the long walk to the squared circle at WrestleMania and performed for the WWE Universe. The Deadman entered the ring with the same dark malice he had approached every one of the 25 WrestleMania matches.
He looked into the masses that had gathered for the event, with his presence on the card a huge reason they had ventured to Camping World Stadium. The bell rang and he threw fists with Roman Reigns in the night's main event, a titanic clash between two men staking claim to the yard that is WWE.
Little did the fans in attendance know at the time but The Deadman had just begun his last match, a contest that would put an exclamation point on his unrivaled career while simultaneously putting Reigns over in the highest-profile match of the young star's professional life.
The Deadman stumbled through the match, rarely looking like the supremely confident performer fans had come to love and adore over the last three decades. While it made for some clunky and uncomfortable spots, it also told the story of an old gunslinger who just did not have what it takes to keep up with the industry's top dog anymore.
His loss was insignificant. The conclusion of Sunday's show was not dedicated to wins or losses. No, it was about celebrating a man who had broken his body entertaining the masses for 27 years.
As Undertaker removed his gloves, then his coat and finally his iconic black hat and left them lying in the center of the ring, the harsh blow of reality had set in among the WWE fans: The Phenom had taken his last ride.
The Deadman's retirement creates many questions about WWE's marketing of WrestleMania going forward. For the last decade, Undertaker has returned almost exclusively to partake in the annual extravaganza. Without him and his marquee matches to fuel anticipation, WWE may actually have to focus on promoting its young talent and structuring the show around them.
As sad as it is to see him take his final bow, it may benefit the company in the long term.
A Wonderful Return
2 of 4Matt and Jeff Hardy validated every pre-WrestleMania rumor Sunday night, joining Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, Sheamus and Cesaro, and Enzo Amore and Big Cass in a Fatal 4-Way Ladder Match for the Raw Tag Team Championship.
The audience erupted into a deafening ovation as the brothers made their way to the ring and, some 20 minutes later, celebrated their seventh reign as tag champions in WWE.
The Hardy Boyz have long been one of the most popular acts in wrestling. The recent Broken storyline that dominated TNA Wrestling (and eventually Impact Wrestling) airwaves and almost single-handedly saved that company from extinction breathed life into both Matt and Jeff's careers.
Chants of "delete" could be heard throughout Camping World Stadium, a sign that the independent gimmick had struck a nerve with even the most passionate WWE fans.
Now the top dogs in a tag team division in desperate need of the spark the tandem brings, it should be interesting to see if the brothers introduce The Broken Hardys, Vanguard-1, the dilapidated boat and the extraordinary xylophone to the masses in the biggest company in professional wrestling.
John Cena Pops the Question
3 of 4After years of essentially begging to be his wife, Nikki Bella stood across the ring from John Cena and saw her wildest dreams come true at WrestleMania 33. Covering her mouth and with tears forming in the corners of her eyes, she watched as Cena dropped to one knee, recited her real name and asked her to marry him.
From the very first season of Total Divas back in 2013, Bella's desire to marry Cena has been very apparent. So apparent that it became the butt of many a joke from her on-screen rivals. Now the soon-to-be Mrs. John Cena, Bella can relax a bit.
The question is whether or not Bella or Cena's runs with WWE are long for this sports entertainment world. Bella announced over the weekend that she had reinjured her surgically repaired neck. Cena has numerous film projects in the works, including the upcoming The Wall.
With other options outside the squared circle for Cena and long-term health very much a concern for Bella, WrestleMania 33 may very well have represented the end of their career as regular characters in Vince McMahon's traveling morality play.
Gronk Invades WrestleMania
4 of 4New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski hit the ring Sunday night, attacking Jinder Mahal after the perennial undercard performer disrespected him ringside.
The spot, included in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal presentation at this year's show, preceded Mojo Rawley eliminating both Mahal and NXT's Killian Dain to win the match.
WrestleMania has traditionally brought Superstars and mainstream personalities from the world of sport and pop culture together, so Gronk's appearance fits the theme of the event.
Unfortunately, his presence at the show directly influenced Rawley's victory. The NFL star's appearance is likely the only reason Rawley won the match.
With Superstars such as Sami Zayn, Braun Strowman, Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Apollo Crews and Kalisto participating in the Battle Royal, the match should have been one of the better of its kind. Instead, it was the background for a flirtation with mainstream media coverage.
