Manchester United vs. Everton: Team News, Preview, Live Stream, TV Info

Manchester United and Everton can each make a crucial jump toward closing the gap on the Premier League's top four when they clash at Old Trafford this Tuesday.

Week 30 will bring about the return of midweek top-flight football, and both teams will have plenty of motivation to snatch all three points as United—currently fifth—look to dash sixth-placed Everton's hopes on home turf.

The international break was unkind to Toffees manager Ronald Koeman, who has a raft of injury concerns prior to Tuesday's trip, while Red Devils counterpart Jose Mourinho has a handful of his own concerns in defence.

Team News

Potentially the biggest news for United chief Mourinho ahead of Tuesday's clash is that star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba could make their returns to the lineup following a pair of enforced absences.

While Ibrahimovic served the final game of his three-match suspension during Saturday's 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion, BBC Radio Manchester reporter Bill Rice posted footage of Pogba training again after that disappointment:

The Guardian's Jamie Jackson has handed United fans a blow, however, after he reported Juan Mata could be in line to miss the rest of the season after undergoing groin surgery last Thursday.

Meanwhile, Marcos Rojo could keep his place in central defence as both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones look set to remain sidelined with "long-term" setbacks, according to Simon Stone of BBC Sport:

While the return of Pogba—who injured his hamstring against Rostov last month—could be big, United will also be pleased to have Ander Herrera back after he served a two-game suspension for the red he picked up against Chelsea.

For Koeman, the fitness problems are in even greater number. Right-back Seamus Coleman will miss the rest of 2016-17 after breaking his leg against Wales in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in March, and the Dutchman listed Ramiro Funes Mori and James McCarthy as injured prior to Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, per PhysioRoom.com:

A more pressing hope for Koeman is the fitness of Morgan Schneiderlin, who he said remains a doubt to face his former club on Tuesday, per injury analyst Ben Dinnery.

Bosnian Muhamed Besic is a long-term absentee for Everton after suffering a serious knee injury last August, per Sky Sports, and £30 million signing Yannick Bolasie is still eyeing a return in late 2017, per BBC Sport.

Defeat for either side on Tuesday would mean a reckoning with their respective fanbases, as United angle for a strong response to Saturday's bore draw at home, while the Toffees will be infuriated with their derby defeat.

Despite there being major promise at what Mourinho might achieve at Old Trafford—particularly after spending more than £150 million on players last summer—the figures show United aren't progressing as hoped, however:

Everton, meanwhile, can still rescue a promising finish to their maiden campaign under Koeman, and what better way to boost their European prospects than by downing one of the continent's powerhouses on their own soil?

That will undoubtedly be easier said than done, however, especially when one considers the Toffees' away record against clubs higher than them in the table this season, per Simon Gleave of Gracenote Sports:

Tuesday's visitors may have played two games more than their Manchester hosts, but that shouldn't diminish Everton in their bid to prove they belong among the Premier League's upper hierarchy.

United have lost just once at home in the league this season, although they've drawn (eight) more games at Old Trafford than they've won (six), giving Everton great hope of stealing a result from the Theatre of Dreams.
