Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns: WWE WrestleMania 2017 Match Odds, Preview and Pick

Erik BeastonApr 1, 2017

For nearly three decades, WrestleMania has been The Undertaker's playground, a grand stage on which he destroyed and demolished any unfortunate soul in his path. With a sparkling 23-1 win-loss record, including 21 straight victories, it is safe to say no one has approached his reign of excellence at The Showcase of the Immortals.

There is one Superstar, though, who is mounting an impressive streak of his own and will look to add to it by defeating The Deadman Sunday night in Orlando, Florida.

Roman Reigns is 3-1 at the spring spectacular, his lone loss coming in controversial fashion in a 2015 match against Brock Lesnar that turned into a Triple Threat Match when Seth Rollins cashed in a Money in the Bank opportunity.

Headlining his third WrestleMania in a row, Reigns is the unquestioned top full-time star in Vince McMahon's traveling circus of sports entertainers. Is this the year the company puts a young star over its greatest phenom, or will The Deadman conquer another Superstar on the grand stage he helped build?

Take a look at this in-depth preview and latest odds, courtesy of OddsShark.com.

This Is My Yard Now

The Undertaker returned to San Antonio, the site of his last Royal Rumble victory, determined to earn one more championship opportunity at WrestleMania by winning the annual 30-man extravaganza. His championship aspirations were extinguished when Reigns eliminated him and exclaimed, "it's my yard now."

When The Phenom returned to Raw and had his first post-Rumble address interrupted by Reigns, he saw the opportunity to avenge his elimination. He grabbed the three-time WWE champion by the throat and planted him with a massive chokeslam.

Just days later, WWE.com made a match between the two official, and suddenly, WrestleMania had a bona fide main event without a championship at its center.

Reigns would strike back at his opponent, delivering a massive spear that served both as a message to Undertaker and a receipt for the chokeslam he endured weeks earlier.

Just days before their epic encounter, Reigns and The Deadman came face-to-face on the March 27 episode of Raw. The latter attempted to use parlor tricks and supernatural abilities to intimidate his young opponent.

It did not work.

Reigns remained unfazed by his opponent's theatrics and stood across the ring from him, staring him down as the arena faded to black.

Preview

The hottest match on Sunday's card will be Reigns vs. Undertaker.

Reigns is wrestling's most polarizing figure and draws the loudest reaction of the night, regardless of whether audiences are cheering or booing.

Undertaker, on the other hand, is the most respected veteran on the roster. He is the last icon of a bygone era and a Superstar who has been a staple of WWE programming for three decades. He will be the overwhelming favorite come Sunday night.

The result? An electric atmosphere and a legitimate main event spectacle deserving of the WrestleMania spotlight.

An Undertaker victory would satisfy both diehard and casual fans alike, but it would do little to prepare the next generation of Superstars. Like it or not, Reigns is the guy tapped to lead the WWE into the next decade.

This is the type of match he should win to strengthen his credibility and add to his young legacy.

The biggest question is whether or not Undertaker is wrestling his final match Sunday night in Orlando.

Prediction

There was a time when Undertaker would be the overwhelming favorite to win this match.

That time has come and gone.

Even the greatest of all time fall in defeat at the hands of Father Time, and The Phenom is no different. After years of wear and tear, he is no longer the performer he once was.

Reigns is a performer entering his prime, a big-match player whose resume in high-profile bouts speaks for itself. He has a decade of quality work in front of him. If played correctly, he could easily be the next generation's equivalent to his WrestleMania opponent.

That is what this match should establish.

In a monumental showdown, Reigns defeats Undertaker and the crowd in Orlando erupts.

For better or worse.
