EPL Results Week 29: Saturday's 2017 Premier League Scores, Top Scorers, Table

James DudkoMar 18, 2017

Romelu Lukaku became the outright top scorer in this season's Premier League after scoring twice in stoppage time to help Everton beat Hull City 4-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The result moved the Toffees above Manchester United into sixth place in the table. It also helped Lukaku overtake Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane as the most prolific goalscorer in England's top flight.

Everton are now level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal. The Gunners have played two games fewer than Everton, but their hopes of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League were dented by a 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Recap

Sanchez struck a well-taken equaliser after the Gunners had fallen behind to a Craig Dawson header. As Sky Sports Statto detailed, Chile international Sanchez has made a habit of scoring on his travels this season:

Sanchez has been the driving force for Arsenal in the final third during what has turned into a testing campaign. Squawka Football showed how productive the former Barcelona forward has been in the league:

Sanchez was one of the few Gunners players to thrive against the Baggies, despite being on the receiving end of some tough tackles from the hosts. In fact, Sanchez did not come away from the game unscathed, with embattled Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger providing this worrying update, per Goal's Chris Wheatley:

Arsenal's chances of finishing in the top four now look bleak. It will be even more difficult to make up the ground on Liverpool if Sanchez misses an extended amount of time.

Everton are one team hoping to profit from the Gunners' ongoing struggles. The Toffees have been in strong form since the turn of the year, with Lukaku's goals powering their strong run.

He got in on the act against the relegation-threatened Tigers after Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Enner Valencia had put Everton into a commanding lead.

Lukaku raced clear after Valencia played him through to score his first. It gave him a rare distinction in the club's history, according to OptaJoe:

Lukaku then profited from a poor backpass from Omar Elabdellaoui to complete his brace. One more goal gave the Belgium international one more landmark achievement in the Premier League:

Everton have clicked into gear after steadily adapting to the methods of shrewd manager Ronald Koeman. This is now a team built on pace, power and ingenuity, both through midfield and along the forward line.

Everton are in the ascendancy, but nobody can keep up with leaders Chelsea, who moved 13 points clear at the top after beating Stoke City 2-1 at the bet365 Stadium. A Willian free-kick and a late winner from Gary Cahill pushed the Blues closer to the title by maintaining their terrific form away from home:

Chelsea becoming champions now looks inevitable, while last season's title-winners Leicester City have dug themselves out of a hole since Craig Shakespeare succeeded Claudio Ranieri as manager.

Goals from Riyad Mahrez, Robert Huth and Jamie Vardy helped the Foxes win at West Ham United. Leicester even withstood a furious comeback from the Hammers, who scored twice through Manuel Lanzini and Andre Ayew.

Shakespeare's arrival has completely transformed Leicester's fortunes:

The Foxes look safe, as do a Crystal Palace side steadily solidifying their status in the Premier League since Sam Allardyce took over from Alan Pardew as manager. A Troy Deeney own goal helped Palace beat Watford at Selhurst Park and moved them four points clear of the drop zone.

Palace's revival owes a lot to a newfound defensive solidity evident since the club signed Liverpool centre-back Mamadou Sakho on loan:

Palace are pulling away from danger, but Sunderland remain rooted to the bottom of the table after a goalless draw at home to Burnley. So often the great escapologists of the Premier League, this is looking increasingly like the season Sunderland finally suffer the drop.

Finally, Bournemouth beat Swansea City 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium to go 11th in the table. By contrast, the Swans remain in trouble, just three points clear of the bottom three.

Lukaku's goals have Everton on a roll, and he looks a strong bet to finish top scorer. Meanwhile, Chelsea are turning their expected title win into a certainty as their winning ways continue.
