Liverpool vs. Burnley: Jurgen Klopp's Key Pre-Match Press Conference Quotes

Matt JonesMar 10, 2017

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino is a doubt for Sunday’s match with Burnley

The Reds will take on the Clarets at Anfield in the Premier League looking to put some pressure on those teams around them, all of which are involved in the FA Cup quarter-finals over the weekend. However, if they are to win, they may have to do it without Firmino, who has missed training this week, according to the Liverpool boss:

As relayed by James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, the Reds manager also confirmed the match will come too soon for the injured duo of Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge:

Klopp added that he was unsure whether or not Dejan Lovren would be fit enough to feature in the contest:

Liverpool will be hoping to continue building momentum after they beat Arsenal 3-1 in their last outing.

The win over a timid Gunners side was no surprise, as the Reds have excelled against the other top six teams in the Premier League so far this season. However, against opponents further down the table in 2016-17, things haven’t always been so straightforward.

Klopp denied suggestions that he’s a one-dimensional coach, though. "People say I don't have a Plan B or whatever," he said, per Joe Mewis of the Daily Mirror. "Yes, we know how to play. Have to cover specific spaces and make the right decisions. Can't just say we can only concentrate on counter-attacks, set pieces, whatever. It's an all-round challenge."

The Liverpool manager also warned his players against complacency versus the Premier League's worst away side:

He called on the supporters to play their part in unsettling the visitors:

Indeed, Burnley have yet to pick up a single win away from home this season, with 29 of their 31 points accrued coming from their matches at Turf Moor. Klopp feels as though they've been a little unlucky on the road:

The German also commented on a couple of milestones, the first being the 100 points he's racked up in the Premier League since his arrival at the club in 2015.

"One-hundred points sounds like a lot, but it could have been quicker," he said. "I've learned a lot about the league, the club and the players. We are able to play good football. I'm still full of joy for this job."

Sunday's game will also be a landmark one for James Milner, who is poised to make his 600th appearance in the top flight.

Although he's spent much of his Premier League career operating in midfield, he's showcased his versatility by filling in at left-back for much of the campaign. Klopp feels as though there may be many more games to come from the 31-year-old yet:

The clash with the Clarets is a unique opportunity for the Reds, as they have the chance to cut down the gap on their rivals for a finish in the top-four spots. While Liverpool will have played more games, points on the board are vital at what is always a high-pressure spell of the season.

Burnley will battle, press and fight for every ball at Anfield, as they seek to end their awful run of form on the road. Klopp needs his players to operate with patience and composure on Sunday and make strides towards overcoming their longstanding woes against sides who sit deep and look to defend.
