Manchester United Transfer News: Tiemoue Bakayoko, Zlatan Ibrahimovic Rumours

Christopher SimpsonMar 9, 2017

Manchester United will reportedly need to spend £52 million if they're to land AS Monaco star Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer.

That's according to France Football (h/t Charles Perrin of the Express), with the Red Devils having already "courted his services" and manager Jose Mourinho having considered making a bid for him in January.

Chelsea and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old holding midfielder, who is part of a core of top young talent leading Monaco's Ligue 1 title charge this season.

Hesham Bilal-Hafiz of the Manchester Evening News and French football writer Rich Allen were impressed with his performance against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League last month:

The midfielder is an excellent ball-winner who uses his physicality and reading of the game to great effect in the centre of the park.

Bakayoko isn't just an enforcer, though, as he's also comfortable in possession, able to pick a pass or dribble past his opponents confidently.

With Michael Carrick turning 36 in the summer and Marouane Fellaini still failing to convince, United could use some fresh blood in midfield alongside Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera.

Bakayoko has all the attributes to shine at Old Trafford, though it's clear he won't come cheap.

Meanwhile, per Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl, according to "multiple sources" L.A. Galaxy have made an offer to Zlatan Ibrahimovic to sign him this summer and "pay him what would easily be the highest salary in MLS history."

According to the Telegraph's Chris Bascombe, the salary would exceed the £11 million per year deal he's on at United.

Ibrahimovic arrived last summer on a free transfer and has the option of staying at Old Trafford for at least one more year.

The Swede has been a vital player for the Red Devils, scoring 26 goals in all competitions thus far. Football writer Liam Canning hailed the striker for the key role he played in winning the EFL Cup final against Southampton:

Given the ease with which he's settled into English football, Ibrahimovic would likely be able to terrorise MLS defences despite his age.

United have been fairly toothless when Ibrahimovic has been absent or having an off-day this season, so it's crucial they keep him for at least another year to lead the line until one or two more top attacking players can be brought in.
