Kyle Hendricks Placed on 10-Day DL with Hand Injury
The Chicago Cubs placed starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks on the 10-day disabled list Thursday because of right hand tendinitis.
Jesse Rogers of ESPN confirmed the news and reported Mike Montgomery, who has made 18 appearances out of the bullpen this season, will slide into the rotation to fill the void beginning Friday.
Hendricks is coming off a breakout season for the Cubs, having posted a league-best 2.13 ERA to go with a 16-8 record and a 0.979 WHIP. He finished third in the Cy Young voting in 2016.

The right-hander also came through with a 1.42 ERA in five postseason starts to help the Cubs bring home their first World Series title since 1908.
Although Hendricks' 2017 season hasn't been quite as smooth—he has a 4-3 record and 4.09 ERA in 11 starts—the same is true for most of Chicago's roster.
The 27-year-old recently said he and the rest of the pitching staff take responsibility for the team's success or failures.
"We put it on us," Hendricks said, per Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune. "It starts on the mound. We're the ones with the ball in our hands. We have to stop it. Regardless of how the offense is going, if we throw up zeros, we've got a good chance of winning."
While the Cubs have other top options in the rotation, they'll hope to avoid having to go without Hendricks for too long. Fellow pitchers like Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta and John Lackey will have to be rock-solid on the other days of the week to keep the squad afloat during his absence.
