Bold MLB Predictions for Second-Half

TBS Improves, Caray Doesn't

Bullpen BrianOct 7, 2009

I’ve enjoyed TBS’s broadcast of the playoffs.

It’s not been perfect, of course, but I think it’s been much improved during the past two years.

This year’s graphics are outstanding along with the studio commentary, thanks to host Ernie Johnson, which is on par with ESPN and the MLB Network.

Cal Ripken and Dennis Eckersley offer sound analysis with David Wells acting as the poor man’s Charles Barkley.

The announcing, on the other hand, is still dragging behind in large part to Chip Caray’s pitfalls.

The guy’s not a No.1, let alone better than Dick Stockton, Don Orsillo or Brian Anderson.

And quite honestly, I’d flip the talent in reverse order with Anderson as the No. 1 guy.

Kudos to Bob Brenly who’s ditched his weak sense of humor in favor of interesting analysis, something I wish he’d do more of on the Cubs’ broadcasts.

If anything, we’ve been spared the onslaught of Frank TV promotions, which alone improves the entire broadcast.
