
Chapecoense Goalkeeper Danilo Posthumously Named Brazil Fans' Player of the Year
Danilo, Chapecoense's goalkeeper who was killed in the club's air crash on November 28, has been posthumously voted as Brazil's Player of the Year by fans.
According to Reuters (h/t the Guardian), Danilo received 48 per cent of the votes, which were cast online, and his mother Ilaides Padilha collected the award in his stead.
Danilo's sister, Daniele Padilha, shared a photo of herself and her mother with his award on her Facebook page:

Per the MailOnline's Matthew Smith, Padilha also commemorated her brother with a tattoo:
Per Reuters, Danilo's mother said: "In the name of Chapecoense, I want to thank everyone for their affection and ask for their prayers. May the future warriors that come to Chapecoense be like the warriors that left there."
The stopper, who died aged 31, played a crucial role in getting the Brazilian club to the Copa Sudamericana final—to which they were flying when their plane crashed outside Medellin, Colombia—with a vital save in the final minutes of their semi-final with San Lorenzo.
Chapecoense lost 19 players in the 71 people killed in the crash, along with a number of non-playing staff and directors.
At the request of their opponents-to-be in the final, Atletico Nacional, they were awarded the Copa Sudamericana title.
