Rory MarsdenNov 27, 2016

Barcelona dropped six points back from La Liga leaders Real Madrid as they drew 1-1 against Real Sociedad on Sunday but were quite fortunate to take even a point away from the Anoeta Stadium.

Villarreal fell to their second defeat in as many La Liga matches, as they were downed 2-0 at home by Alaves, and Atletico Madrid took advantage to leapfrog them into fourth place after a 3-0 away win at lowly Osasuna.

Meanwhile, Celta Vigo beat bottom-of-the-table Granada 3-1 to move up into ninth.

Sunday Recap

Barca went into Sunday's clash having not beaten La Real away from home in some time, per Squawka:

Luis Enrique's side were dominated in the first half by the hosts, and when they went behind to Willian Jose's header in the 53rd minute, it was a deserved lead for La Real.

It was a somewhat calamitous goal to concede from Barca, as Gerard Pique's attempted clearance ended up in the back of the net following Jose's long-range header. Indeed, the Spanish defender's intervention was perhaps the key touch, per Spanish football writer Sid Lowe:

Barca equalised through Lionel Messi six minutes later, as the Argentinian swept home Neymar's excellent ball from the left.

The Blaugrana did not kick on, though, and La Real continued to have the better chances. Juanmi put the ball in the back of the net 13 minutes from time, as he followed up on Carlos Vela's shot that hit the bar, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Replays showed the decision was incorrect, and Barcelona were very fortunate that it was still 1-1 when the final whistle blew.

Atleti claimed their first win in three league matches, as they brushed aside Osasuna with ease.

Jan Oblak saved a first-half Roberto Torres penalty before the Madrid outfit went ahead through Diego Godin's header in the 36th minute.

Kevin Gameiro then doubled the visitors' lead barely two minutes later with a low finish, and Yannick Carrasco added polish to the victory with an excellent solo goal late on.

For Celta Vigo, Iago Aspas opened the scoring with his seventh league goal of the season, per AS:

The former Liverpool forward then set up Theo Bongonda for the second goal, and they went in at the break 2-0 ahead at Balaidos.

They eventually cruised to victory despite Artem Kravets' 87th-minute strike, with Pape Cheikh Diop adding a third goal for the hosts in stoppage time.

Meanwhile, Alaves continued their quite remarkable season with a victory at the Madrigal, per Spanish football writer Colin Millar:

Villarreal were turned over by early goals from Ibai and Victor Camarasa and will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they face Leganes next up in the league.
