La Liga Results 2016 Week 13: Final Scores and Updated Table After Saturday
Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of La Liga to six points on Saturday after seeing off struggling Sporting Gijon at the Bernabeu, but it wasn't the expected routine victory.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot with just five minutes on the clock and doubled his tally 13 minutes later, but a Carlos Carmona strike reduced arrears before the break.
Real Madrid went searching for a third goal to put the result beyond doubt, but Sporting weren't about to lie down and should have left the Bernabeu with a point in the end.

With just 12 minutes left on the clock, Duje Cop was gifted the chance to equalise for the visitors from the penalty spot, but he fired horribly over the bar. Sky Sports' David Garrido reflected on just how much Real rode their luck:
Either way, three points are three points, and Ronaldo himself tweeted such a philosophy after the game before reminding the world where his side sit in the La Liga ladder:

Elsewhere, Sevilla moved up to second in the table after a stuttering 2-1 victory over Valencia.
An Ezequiel Garay own goal gave Sevilla the lead on the 53-minute mark, but Munir levelled the game soon after to silence the home crowd.
However, Nicolas Pareja had the last laugh when his scruffy effort found its way in to give Sevilla all three points.
The ball broke to Pareja on the edge of the box following a corner, he swung a left leg that was just about enough for it to trickle over the line via the post.
Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna played out the game of the day on Saturday, as Javier Ontiveros scored a last-gasp winner to seal a 4-3 victory.
A brace from Michael Santos either side of a Sandro strike cancelled out Celso Borges' early goal to give Malaga a 3-1 lead early on in the second half, before Deportivo staged a stunning comeback.

Florin Andone and Borges found the net to make it 3-3 as the game looked destined for a point. Ontiveros, though, had other ideas.
Cutting in from the left, the youngster rifled home an unstoppable effort from 25 yards right into the top corner to break Deportivo hearts. The victory moved Malaga up to ninth in the table.
In the day's other game, Espanyol cruised past Leganes to heap even more misery on the newly promoted club.
Gerard Moreno broke the deadlock just after half-time before two goals from Pablo Piatti gave the Catalonian side a 3-0 win.
Espanyol's neighbours Barcelona return to action on Sunday looking to leapfrog Sevilla and cut Real Madrid's lead to four points at the top of the table.
Luis Enrique's men travel to in-form Real Sociedad looking to make amends for a crushing defeat at the Anoeta Stadium last season, when a Jordi Alba own goal gave the hosts a shock 1-0 victory.
The title race is already heating up despite it being the early stages of the campaign, and anything other than a victory for Barca on Sunday will give Real Madrid a huge boost.
