Gia's win is her 44th Best in Show in the past two years. But for her handler, Gaudet, this win was particularly memorable, as her grandmother was watching from a hospital bed.
"My grandmother is ill in the hospital, and she’s always asking me if I am doing this dog show, because she has never seen me on TV," Gaudet told Kelli Bender of People.com
If she was watching, she saw Gia show off why she is an excellent show dog.
"Gia fits the greyhound standard perfectly and also gives that extra showmanship," Best In Show judge James G. Reynolds said, per Bender. "She has a head like a snake and can really gallop. A lot of greyhounds don’t have that showmanship."
Certainly, Gia topped a competitive field, as The Ringer humorously tweeted:
Gaudet likely wasn't surprised by Gia's latest win, as the dog has always been responsive and adaptive.
"She’s pretty amazing," Gaudet told Adam Parker of the Charleston Post and Courier. "I’ve shown her now for almost two years. ... It’s unspoken commands. She moves to my move."
She told Bender she'll take Gia to the 2017 Westminster Dog Show before retiring the greyhound.
