Gianni VerschuerenNov 23, 2016

Manchester City and Barcelona joined the group of teams that have already qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, with four tickets left up for grabs entering the final matchday.

The Catalans battled their way to a 2-0 win over Celtic, and with City and Monchengladbach playing out a 1-1 draw in Germany, the Catalans are assured the top position in Group C.

Paris Saint-Germain put themselves in a prime position to finish Group A in the top spot with a 2-2 draw at Arsenal, and Atletico Madrid secured the top spot in Group D with a win over PSV Eindhoven. Earlier on Wednesday, Bayern Munich suffered a shock loss at Rostov.

Fox Soccer shared the list of teams still vying for the final tickets:

Barcelona didn't have it easy at Celtic Park, where Lionel Messi scored twice, including once from the penalty spot, to win the Catalans their group with a match to spare.

Per Bleacher Report UK, he made some history in the process:

The Blaugrana put together a mature display, wasting little energy and running into a handful of convenient bookings once the win was no longer in doubt. Both Neymar and Ivan Rakitic visibly went in search of yellow cards, ensuring they'll be suspended for the last match of the group stage and allowing them to start the knockout stages with a clean slate.

Over in Gladbach, Raffael and David Silva both scored in the first half of a 1-1 draw that saw City qualify for the next round. Gladbach dominated early, but after Lars Stindl and Fernandinho were both sent off in the span of minutes, the Citizens improved.

The biggest shock of the night came from Russia, where Rostov beat Bayern Munich 3-2 to all but hand Atletico the group. The Rojiblancos later beat PSV, with Kevin Gameiro and Antoine Griezmann scoring the goals, ensuring they'll be a top seed for the draw.

Holger Badstuber took to Twitter to express his disappointment:

Lucas Moura scored a late equaliser for PSG that moved his team to the top of Group A, with Les Parisiens holding the edge over Arsenal on goal difference.

With one match left to play, Les Parisiens are now the clear favourites to win Group A, although the rewards may not be as significant as in previous years, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid set to finish in second place.

Everything is still possible in Group B, where Besiktas chase Napoli and Benfica by just a single point heading into the final matchday.
