Nike Unveils 2016 Doernbecher Freestyle Collection, Including Air Jordan 7
For the 13th year running, Nike has unveiled its annual Doernbecher collection. This collection helps raise money for the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, with all of the proceeds benefiting those in need.
What's so compelling about the Doernbecher collection, outside of the charitable element, is Nike allows kids to become lead designers, turning creative aspirations into tangible pieces of reality.
Along with articles of clothing, every year we get a brand new, custom Air Jordan model—one that usually sells out. The 2016 edition of the Doernbecher Air Jordan is the VII, curated by Damien Phillips.
Using mainly red and black as the sneaker's two signature colors, Phillips' Air Jordan VII was based off the love he has for playing guitar, per Nike News.
In true Doernbecher fashion, the sneaker was also given an extra jolt of expression in the form of a cartoon drawing of Phillips shredding away on his axe. The picture was beautifully etched onto the sole of each sneaker.
The materials used to coat the Doernbecher VIIs appear to veer off into premium territory, which is always welcomed amongst footwear aficionados. Tumbled leather splattered across the upper brings that classic Jordan Brand feel back into rotation.
The Doernbecher Air Jordan VII will be releasing on December 17 in limited quantities for a price tag of $190. It will provide sneakerheads with an unique opportunity to cop kicks of a worthy cause, which also stray away from more of the conventional, general release type of stuff.
Interested parties should stick to Nike's SNRKs app for a chance to secure a pair.
